St. Thomas will soon be home to its first Miyawaki Mini Forest thanks to a national greening initiative supported by Green Communities Canada.
On Tuesday, September 30, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., residents are invited to Parish Park on Benjamin Parkway to help plant the small but powerful forest using the Miyawaki Method, a technique that grows fast, resilient ecosystems in compact spaces.
The project, part of the Living Cities Canada Fund, aims to reduce the urban heat island effect, improve stormwater management, create wildlife habitat, and boost air quality and community well-being.
City representatives, community leaders, and volunteers will be on hand for the planting.
Those interested in taking part can register through Railway City Tourism. A rain date has been set for October 2.
