A warm coat can make all the difference – and a local partnership is working to ensure that no one in St. Thomas and Elgin faces winter without one.
The Goodwill Industries ClothingWorks Program, together with YWCA St. Thomas-Elgin, is set to host its annual winter giveaway, both October 24th and 25th.
Melissa Kempf, Communications Manager at the YWCA, says this year’s event will be held on-site from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with items available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Carol-Ann McIntyre, Program Coordinator at ClothingWorks shared that last year, more than 400 visitors took home nearly 1,500 items, thanks to the generosity of the community and the hard work of volunteers.
In addition to coats, McIntyre explains that the giveaway will include hand-knitted items, created by volunteers known as the “Yarnies.”
Volunteers will be on hand to assist attendees during their visit, ensuring a comfortable and respectful environment.
Organizers emphasize that the giveaway is open to everyone in need, including newcomers to Canada and families experiencing financial challenges.
The event is designed to provide warmth, dignity, and community support during the winter months.
