Free cancer screening pop-up clinics return to St. Thomas this month.
Hosted by the Thames Valley Health Team, the clinics will offer Pap tests, FIT tests for colorectal cancer screening and mammograms.
The testing is designed to provide vital cancer screening services to women, men over the age of 50, trans-masculine individuals, and non-binary people.
The screenings are available to all residents of St. Thomas and Elgin whether or not they have a family doctor or nurse practitioner.
Owen Fletcher, one of the nurses who will be performing the screening assures, “These clinics will be inclusive, calm, and a friendly environment to receive testing or information about being tested.”
Thames Valley Family Health Team Executive Director Jill Strong noted, “Preventative care is a critical part of an individual’s overall health. Given that 10,000 community members in Elgin don’t have consistent access to primary care, preventative care needs for these individuals are often unmet and we want to change that.”
The first clinic is tomorrow (Nov. 18) at 230 First Ave., suite 109, home of the Elgin Community Health Hub. This will be followed by a clinic on Dec. 18.
Appointments are scheduled between 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and can be booked by calling 519-473-0530, ext. 2258.
The clinics are run in conjunction with the Elgin Ontario Health Team.
Ongoing clinics will scheduled in the new year.
