The Salvation Army St. Thomas has launched its annual Christmas Kettle Campaign — marking the 125th year of the national fundraiser, and another season of community giving.
The campaign officially kicked off Friday night at the St. Thomas Stars game, where the Salvation Army band performed O Canada and Captain Scott Allen joined officials on ice for the ceremonial puck drop.
As their only fundraiser of the year, this six-week campaign is crucial for the work they do locally, stressed Allen.
It also helps fund their monthly community meal, backpack and winter coat programs, summer camp opportunities for local youth and more.
The kettles — a familiar holiday fixture — can be found at major retailers across the city, including Walmart, Superstore, FreshCo, Giant Tiger, Metro, the Elgin Centre, and more.
Allen says the need for support continues to grow, and so does the need for volunteers.
Those interested in signing up for a volunteer time slot can reach out to the Salvation Army directly at 519-631-6202 ext. 4.
