The Elgin County Railway Museum announced Wednesday it is temporarily suspending operations, with no reopening date anticipated at the time.
In an open letter to the community, the Museum says the decision comes as a result of building-related issues located outside of public areas.
Museum officials stress the concerns did not affect public safety during recent events or operations, but the facility will remain closed to the public, members, and volunteers while the issues are addressed. Limited staff access will continue only for essential purposes.

Museum officials acknowledged the impact of the closure, calling it a difficult day not only for the organization but for a community that has supported the museum for generations through attendance, donations, and volunteerism.
The ECRM says it is now focused on assessing the situation and developing a clear path forward that supports both the long-term sustainability of the museum and the preservation of its historic building.
Sleightholm stresses updates are expected to be shared as key milestones are reached, with further information anticipated in the spring of 2026.
