Tuesday is St. Patrick’s Day and what better way to celebrate than with an evening of toe-tapping tunes and fiery fiddles.
All of it courtesy of crowd favourites, Maggie’s Wake.
Fronted by Tara Dunphy and Lindsay Schindler, they’ve become a fixture in London and across southwestern Ontario with what they lovingly refer to as “a fiery fusion of Celtic tradition and roots swagger.”
A guaranteed crackin’ good time at the Princess Avenue Playhouse assures Dunphy.
Along with bassist Andrew Kosty and Kenneth Palmer on guitar, the group emerged in 2022 and it didn’t take long for the awards to be snatched up.
Including the 2025 Canadian Folk Music Award for New Artists of the Year.
And in January of this year, Maggie’s Wake were Your Roots Are Showing Official Showcase Artists in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
They are working on their sophomore album due for release later this spring.
“And with this album,” advises Dunphy, “it’s actually going to be, I think, a little bit more focused on the instrumentation that we use in the band right now. The focus will be more on the melodies and on the lyrics rather than an overall big sound. So maybe a little bit less instrumentation, but a bigger impact.”
As for their St. Patrick’s Day celebration, Dunphy says it will be like a night in Ireland without the expense of airfare.
The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the fun gets underway at 7.
