The greatest engineering hurdle faced by Port Stanley Terminal Rail in its 43-year history, is going to stymie operations for a little longer.
Due to erosion problems under the south abutment of the Kettle Creek bridge, Port Stanley Terminal Rail had to suspend their train schedule on Dec. 12.
The hope was to having trains running again for the popular Easter Egg Hunt weekend.
However, PSTR President Dan Vernackt advised the resumption of service was pushed back last month and work is continuing on the bridge.
“The sheet piling is now all driven,” explained Vernackt. “Work is now ongoing to fasten the pilings to the abutment with several hundred bolts. It is anticipated to pump this full of concrete on April 8 and 9. Then the concrete needs to set for a week, then trains can run on it.”
Vernackt expects operations to begin May 2.
