The Waiting Room Revolution is coming to Dutton-Dunwich.
It’s the brainchild of Dr. Sammy Winemaker and Dr. Hsien Seow, faculty members at Hamilton’s McMaster University.
Over the years, both realized there is a significant gap in the healthcare system in that the role of the patient is often overlooked or downplayed, advised Dr. Seow.
He adds, their work is all about helping people so that they can ask the right questions about an illness or help loved ones navigate that diagnosis.
Dr. Seow explains that the foundation for their social movement is based on seven keys for more choice and contorl
He notes, “And the truth is, any illness where you’re visiting the health care system a lot is a scary time. It’s like a foreign world, this health system. They speak in a different language. It works in a certain way that you know, we’re not really familiar with. So even though our work, our day-to-day lives, we deal with really serious conditions for sure that shorten people’s lives, the work that we’re doing and what we’re talking about could really be applied right from the beginning of an illness, of any illness really, any sort of life-changing illness that can help people navigate that better.”
Dr. Seow outlines what is included in the free, one-hour presentation in Dutton.
He stresses, “And so this is the perfect event because it isn’t about planning for the end. This is a plan for the beginning, actually.”
The free presentation is April 30 at the John Kenneth Galbraith Library, 236 Shackleton Street in Dutton. The doors open at 5:30, with the speakers beginning at 6.
