Applications are now open for the third edition of the St. Thomas Police Service Andrew M. Bennett Scholarship Award. The scholarship is named in honour of Const. Bennett, whose career and life were cut short by cancer some years ago.
St. Thomas Police Chief Marc Roskamp characterized Bennett as, “an esteemed colleague and friend to many St. Thomas police officers, civilians and the community.
“He was one of the good ones who left us too soon.”
We asked Roskamp about the motivation behind the $500 scholarship.
Applicants must be a 2026 graduating student from a St. Thomas or Elgin county secondary school.
Roskamp outlined the qualities they are seeking in applicants.
He explains the next step for eligible applicants.
The submissions should detail how the applicant intends to be a force for good and how ongoing kindness encourages others and impacts change.
Roskamp notes, applications and essays will be reviewed by the executive leadership team of the police service.
All applications must be sent to ambennettaward@stps.on.ca by June 1.
Roskamp stresses, “This scholarship represents and investment in the next generation of community-minded leaders, those who are driven, not only by career aspirations, but by a deep commitment to service.”
