Local bookstores are coming together once again this Saturday to celebrate Canadian Independent Bookstore Day.
For the second year in a row, several independent shops across Elgin County are collaborating to offer customers a reciprocal 10 per cent discount—encouraging readers to explore multiple stores while supporting local.
Participating locations include Lake House Books, Lockwood Books, Purely Wicked, and pop-up vendors at Reed’s Records.
Shoppers who make a purchase at one participating store can bring their receipt to another location the same day to receive a discount, creating a county-wide celebration of independent bookselling.
Each store is also planning its own promotions and activities.
At Lake House Books, visitors can search for a hidden “Golden Ticket” from Libro.FM, enter a draw for a $1,000 prize through indiebookstores.ca, and take part in giveaways for early shoppers.
Lockwood Books will offer a “Spend $20, save 20 per cent” promotion, along with refreshments, a gift card draw, and a colouring contest.
Meanwhile, Purely Wicked will feature special deals on books, while additional vendors, including Cimmerian Wares and Vultures Nest Books, will be popping up at Reed’s Records for the day.
Organizers say the initiative highlights the important role independent bookstores play in their communities while giving readers a fun and rewarding way to shop local.
