Drivers travelling through Elgin County should prepare for delays beginning Friday as work gets underway on the Iona Road Rehabilitation Project.
Elgin County says crews will begin stage one of the project along Iona Road from Third Line to the bridge at the Thames River starting Friday, May 29, and continuing through Saturday, May 30.
The work will result in single-lane closures during construction hours, with motorists advised to expect delays and changing road conditions throughout the area.
County officials say the rehabilitation work will be completed in two phases. The first step involves recycling the existing asphalt on site and reusing it as the new road base. A final asphalt driving surface will then be applied later this summer.
Following the recycling operations, drivers can expect a rough, granular-style road surface until the final paving work is completed. Line painting will also take place after the final asphalt layer is installed.
Motorists travelling through the construction zone are being reminded to slow down, follow all posted signage, and use extra caution while crews are on site.
