London police have provided an update following a serious collision at Sherwood Forest Mall on Friday morning.
During a press conference held this afternoon, police confirmed that a vehicle accelerated into the side of the GoodLife Fitness building at approximately 7:45 a.m. At the time of the collision, people were participating in a fitness class inside the building.
Police say the reason the driver accelerated remains unknown, and the investigation is ongoing.
Seven people were transported to the hospital following the incident. According to police, two individuals remain in critical condition, including the driver and a person who was pinned beneath the vehicle.
Investigators said there is currently no evidence to suggest the incident was an act of terrorism.
The collision caused significant damage to the building and prompted a large emergency response.
Police expect criminal charges will be laid as the investigation continues. Officers are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have information to contact the London Police Service.
