With roundabouts becoming more common across West Region roadways, the Ontario Provincial Police is reminding drivers about proper use.
Officials note that roundabouts aim to improve traffic flow and reduce serious collisions, but only when used correctly.
In a recent safety message, West Region OPP Sergeant Ed Sanchuk outlined key rules for navigating multi-lane and dual-lane roundabouts.
When it comes to lane choice, the OPP says it depends on the intended exit, with the right lane generally used for the first exit or right turn, and the left lane for straight-through travel or left turns.
Sanchuk also stresses that drivers should follow posted signs and pavement markings before entering.
Police say roundabouts are designed to keep traffic flowing but only operate safely when drivers yield, signal, and remain aware of other road users, including cyclists and pedestrians.
