As excitement builds for Arthur Voaden Secondary School’s 100th anniversary celebrations this September, organizers are inviting the community to take a trip back in time later this month.
The AVSS Centenary Committee is hosting “Dress Your Decade” on Saturday, June 27, at the St. Thomas Seniors Centre, offering an evening of music, memories, games, and retro fun.
Committee member Betty Green explains that the event is designed as a lead-up to the school’s centennial celebrations and encourages attendees to dress in their favourite decade and reconnect with friends, former classmates, and fellow community members while celebrating the school’s long history in St. Thomas.
Green says the theme was inspired by the many generations connected to Arthur Voaden, with each decade representing a different chapter in the school’s 100-year story.
Whether attendees prefer the roaring twenties, the disco era of the seventies, or the big hair and bright colours of the eighties, organizers say the goal is simply to have fun and embrace the nostalgia.
The evening will feature karaoke, board games, cards, a cash bar, and a chance to compete for a prize awarded to the best decade-themed outfit.
Guests can also expect a retro atmosphere throughout the venue, with decorations and activities designed to transport people back to their school days and favourite memories.
While the event will undoubtedly appeal to Arthur Voaden alumni, Green stresses that everyone is welcome to attend.
Adding to the experience will be professional karaoke entertainment provided by Superfly DJ Services, complete with lighting and a dance floor.
Dress Your Decade kicks off at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, at the St. Thomas Seniors Centre. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased through Voaden100.com or at the door.
The larger Arthur Voaden Secondary School centennial celebration is scheduled for September 26 & 27, 2026.
