The Horton Farmers’ Market is inviting the community to celebrate some of nature’s hardest-working creatures as part of International Pollinator Week, running June 22 to 28.
This Saturday, the market will host a special pollinator-themed morning, highlighting the important role bees, butterflies, and other pollinators play in supporting local agriculture and food production.
Visitors will have the chance to explore themed vendor offerings, activities, and educational displays, shared Sarah Noble, Manager of Marketing and Communications with the St. Thomas Economic Development Corporation.
The market celebration is one of several events taking place throughout the city during Pollinator Week. Families are also encouraged to participate in a community-wide Goosechase scavenger hunt running June 20 to 28, which highlights pollinator habitats and green spaces throughout St. Thomas.
Participants can download the Goosechase app and use the join code EHR9SL to get started.
In addition, the St. Thomas Public Library will host “The Power of Pollinators” on Wednesday, June 24, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., offering residents another opportunity to learn about the impact pollinators have on local ecosystems.
Noble says themed events like these have become a popular way to showcase the Horton Farmers’ Market while introducing visitors to the wide variety of local vendors and products available each week.
The Horton Farmers’ Market runs Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon at 10 Manitoba Street.
More information about Pollinator Week activities can be found on the market’s social media channels.
