Motorists are being advised to prepare for significant traffic changes as construction work supporting the future twinning of Highway 3 through St. Thomas gets underway later this month.
According to Elgin County, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation will be completing utility and storm sewer relocation work along Highway 3, requiring a series of road closures beginning June 29.
The project will be carried out in two stages.
Stage 1, running from June 29 through August 31, will see Highway 3 fully closed between First Avenue and Centennial Avenue. The closure will also include the eastbound on-ramp and westbound off-ramp at the First Avenue interchange.
Beginning September 1, Stage 2 will shift the closure westward. Highway 3 will be fully closed between Wellington Road and First Avenue, while the westbound on-ramp and eastbound off-ramp at the First Avenue interchange will also be closed.
The work is being completed to support the future twinning of Highway 3, a long-anticipated infrastructure project aimed at improving traffic flow and safety through the region.
A signed detour route will be in place using Wellington Road, Ron McNeil Line, and Highbury Avenue South/Centennial Avenue.
