One of Elgin County’s most beloved summer traditions returns on Wednesday as the 27th annual Seniors Picnic in the Park takes over Pinafore from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Held at the Dance Pavilion, the free event features live music, a classic car show, door prizes, food vendors, and plenty of opportunities to reconnect with friends old and new.
Committee member Geoff Rae says while the entertainment is always a highlight, the picnic is about much more than that.
That will be St. Hilda’s St. Luke’s Church, with food also available from The Streetery Food Truck and The Ice Box.
Rae notes the picnic has become a summer tradition because it gives people a chance to socialize, meet new people, and discover what’s available throughout St. Thomas-Elgin.
Although the event is geared toward older adults, everyone is welcome to attend. Rae notes it’s common to see grandparents bringing grandchildren along for a day of music, dancing, and family fun, with visitors travelling from across Elgin County and beyond to take part.
Every guest will receive a complimentary welcome bag containing their door prize ballot, “Picnic Perks” coupons from local businesses, and other giveaways.
Rae notes that a change in how they hand out door prizes should be noted.
Guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, a reusable water bottle to take advantage of the complimentary water refill station provided by Simply Pure Water, and a little cash if they plan to purchase lunch or treats. Free Railway City Transit service will also be available for those travelling within St. Thomas.
Presented by Nurse Next Door, the event is made possible through the support of the County of Elgin, the City of St. Thomas, Seasons St. Thomas, and numerous community partners.
The Seniors Picnic in the Park takes place rain or shine on Wednesday, July 8, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pinafore Park.
