Local small businesses will be getting a little more glamour this year as Bridges to Better Business takes on a Bridgerton-inspired theme.
The annual celebration, hosted by the Elgin/St. Thomas Small Business Enterprise Centre with event partner Element5, is moving to St. Anne’s Centre for its 17th year on September 24th.
The change in venue is giving organizers a chance to put a new spin on the event, shares Sarah Noble, Manager of Marketing and Communications with the St. Thomas Economic Development Corporation, while continuing to highlight the people and businesses that help drive the local economy.
More than a dozen small businesses will once again be recognized through the Small Business Awards, while more than 20 food-based businesses from across St. Thomas and Elgin County will take part in the TASTE Food Showcase.
Noble says the event is about more than simply handing out awards; it is an opportunity to recognize the work that often happens behind the scenes for local entrepreneurs.
The event also gives residents a chance to discover businesses and products from across the region that they may not have experienced before.
Noble adds that Bridges can be a reminder of just how much is available close to home, while encouraging people to explore and support local businesses throughout the year.
And while the food and awards remain at the heart of the evening, entertainment will help set the tone.
The Vintera String Quartet will perform during the food showcase, including modern songs in the style of the Bridgerton soundtrack. Following the awards, Dueling Pianos will take over to close out the evening with a more interactive, high-energy performance.
Bridges to Better Business is open to the entire community, with organizers hoping the evening will bring entrepreneurs, businesses and residents together to celebrate the local economy.
The event takes place Thursday, September 24th at St. Anne’s Centre in St. Thomas.
