Re-scheduled: Lifejacket Day with the Elgin County Drowning Prevention Coalition
The Elgin County Drowning Prevention Coalition is inviting families and community members to attend Lifejacket Day, a free, family-friendly event taking place at Lake Margaret / Jim Waite Park re-scheduled to Sunday, May 24, from 1:00–4:00 p.m. Held during Safe Boating Awareness Week, the event will bring together local community partners to promote water safety, lifejacket use, safe boating practices, and drowning prevention ahead of the summer season. Lifejacket Day will include lifejacket fittings, safe boating tips and resources, lifesaving equipment demonstrations, kids’ activities, prize giveaways, and opportunities to donate in support of local drowning prevention initiatives. The event will also highlight new water safety measures at Lake Margaret, including lifesaving equipment and public education efforts designed to improve awareness, preparedness, and safety around local water spaces. Lifejacket Day is proudly supported by Doug Tarry Homes, with participation from community partners including the City of St. Thomas, St. Thomas Fire Department, St. Thomas Police Service, and Elgin County Emergency Management Services. Community members are encouraged to stop by anytime between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. to take part in the activities, learn about lifejacket safety, and support local drowning prevention work.
