St. Thomas Police are getting ready for changes to Impaired Driving Law.
As of December 18th, Officers will be able to ask for a roadside alcohol screening test, while pulling over a vehicle for any lawful reason.
The previous law made it so Officers could only ask for a screening test if there was “reasonable grounds” for example the smell of alcohol on the drivers breath or blood shot eyes.
Media Relations Officer with St. Thomas Police, Tanya Calvert says the change is a win, win for everybody.
Calvert says that residents should educate themselves on the changes, so that when they come into effect there is no misunderstandings.
The penalties remain the same for any impaired driving related charge.
