The new “Care by Parent” residence at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital will allow parents to stay close to their newborn babies who may require extended care. The residence in the women and children’s unit features a kitchen, living room and a bedroom in an apartment like setting.
The residence was made possible by GCW Custom Kitchens & Cabinetry and Hayhoe Homes through their 2016 “Girls Night Out” evening with Olympic Figure Skating Champion Tessa Virtue.
Director of Surgical Services and Women’s and Children’s Unit Penny Lipcsik says that the residence brings added comfort for their patients.
Lipcsik says that this is another way that STEGH is providing cutting edge care to new parents.
Each year STEGH delivers between 650-700 babies and Lipcsik says that they are expecting for that number to be even higher this year.
